Organization of the Week: Bergen County Historical Society
Every Monday, I highlight a non-profit related to history or the arts, a historical society, preservation group or friends group whose main objective is to promote the historical and artistic history of New Jersey. This week, I am featuring the Bergen County Historical Society. Founded in 1939, the Bergen County Historical Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit volunteer organization which promotes preservation, study and appreciation of civil, political, military, and the general history of the United States of America, particularly of Bergen County, New Jersey. Their museum collections are displayed at the Revolutionary War era Steuben House (a State Historic Site), the Campbell-Christine House, and the Demarest House. The organization was instrumental in persuading elected officials from building a bypass in the 1950s that would have passed in front of the historic Steuben House.
