Allaire Village, Inc. is hosting a weekend of Halloween Classics at the Historic Village at Allaire. This year, nationally renowned Helen McKenna from the Edgar Allan Poe House, a national historic site in Philadelphia, will perform a dramatization from the haunting tales of Edgar Allan Poe. The performance will take place in the Allaire Village Chapel. A brief biography of this gifted, yet tragic author will give you insight into his life and renowned works.
The presentation will take place on Friday and Saturday at 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm. Advance registration is required as this is a very popular event and sells out in advance EVERY year! Limited Seating Available. No refunds on tickets purchased. Please print out tickets or check in with tickets on your cellular device. On Sunday, visit our "Sign of the Red Lion" Interpretive Center for “The Lure and Lore of Liquor: Tavern Beverages of the American Revolution" with historian and mixologist David Emerson. Many people know that our Revolution was fomented in the famous taverns of Colonial America – City Tavern of Philadelphia, Boston’s Green Dragon, and the Raleigh in Williamsburg. But other than politics, what was fueling the debates between the Sons of Liberty or the Virginia Burgesses? Join historian and mixologist (yes, indeed) David Emerson in a lively exploration of Colonial drinking customs along with a bit of their social and political context. The talk will include discussion of the various types of beverages available to the 18th Century tavern tippler, how they were made, and even some recipes that you can try on your own (if you dare). Discover our forefathers’ alternative to the modern Mohito and Martini, and what Ben Franklin considered “The Proof of God’s Love.”

“Give ’Em Hell, Harry!”
There are fewer than dozens of living direct descendants of U.S. presidents and only one who steps into the role of his presidential ancestor on stage.
Actor Clifton Truman Daniel brings to life his grandfather, President Harry S. Truman, in this fall’s production “Give ’Em Hell, Harry!” at Cape May Convention Hall, 714 Beach Avenue, on Sunday at 5:00 pm. The performance is a faithful and often humorous portrayal of President Truman’s life and presidency that has garnered awards and accolades since its premiere in 1975. Since October 2017, Daniel has performed the role, marking the first time a U.S. president has been portrayed onstage by a direct descendant. This performance originally scheduled in 2020 is rescheduled to 2021.
Daniel is the oldest grandson of President Harry S. Truman and first lady, Bess Truman. He is the son of author Margaret Truman and former New York Times Managing Editor E. Clifton Daniel, Jr. Daniel is honorary chairman of the board of the Truman Library Institute, Kansas City, Mo., and board secretary of the Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation. He is author of “Growing Up with My Grandfather: Memories of Harry S. Truman” and “Dear Harry, Love Bess: Bess Truman’s Letters to Harry Truman, 1919-1943.” In addition to portraying his famous grandfather on stage, Daniel is a sought-after lecturer on various aspects of the Truman presidency, as well as United States and White House history.
As an actor, Daniel has appeared in more than a dozen productions with Wilmington, N.C.’s Opera House Theatre Company, including Ensign Pulver in “Mr. Roberts,” Nathan Detroit in “Guys and Dolls,” Mortimer Brewster in “Arsenic and Old Lace,” Randle P. McMurphy in “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” and Antonio Salieri in “Amadeus.” He has also had supporting roles in two episodes of “Matlock” and played Roma Downey’s husband in the never-aired pilot for “Touched by an Angel.” Daniel most recently portrayed the role of President Harry S. Truman, his grandfather, in the award-winning independent film, “Second Samuel,” from Director/Executive Producer/Co-writer J. Wayne Patterson, Jr.

Join in the Halloween fun at the Whippany Railway Museum onboard "The Pumpkin Patch Train"! The 10-mile, 45-minute round trip from Whippany to Roseland and return is the perfect way to spend a Fall afternoon with the family.
After each ride, children with valid train tickets can go to the Pumpkin Patch and pick out a free kid-sized pumpkin and receive a pumpkin decorating kit while supplies last.
Children of all ages are encouraged to come dressed in their Halloween costumes, where they can mingle with our zombies and ghosts, helping to make the train a spooky sight!

4 Tales from the Original Peoples of the Northeastern Woodlands

Isaac Pearson Mansion and Park presents four Tales from the Original Peoples of the Northeastern Woodlands, a limited-time series of pre-recorded and on-demand stories, available through Friday, October 15, 2021, via its website www.isaacpearson.org. Registration is encouraged. Donations are accepted.
Regional storytellers Rob Aptaker and Denise McCormack share four stories, each individually formatted with running times varying from 6 to 11 minutes. Included are 'The Coming of Stories' and 'The Seven Wise Elders,' adapted and retold by Rob Aptaker, and 'Rainbow Crow' and 'The Invisible One and the Rough-Faced Girl,' adapted and retold by Denise McCormack.
The Isaac Pearson mansion was built in 1773, is on the National and State Register of Historic Places. We are offering online and outdoor programs while the Mansion is being restored.
Isaac Pearson Mansion is operated by volunteers of the Historical Society of Hamilton Township, a 501 ( c) 3 non-profit. Your donations help us to preserve the Isaac Pearson Mansion and present history and culture.
