Mount Tabor's 27th Annual Tour - A Porch and Garden Tour
The Mount Tabor Historical Society welcomes back visitors for a special, reimagined COVID-safe self-guided Tour taking place on Saturday, rain or shine from 11:00 am - 4:00 pm.
This walkable tour of the Mount Tabor Historic District allows visitors to experience the unique qualities of this historic community through its exuberant Victorian gingerbread porches and charming cottage gardens. As an added bonus, a limited number of house interiors will be open for viewing. This tour highlights some of Mount Tabor’s most delightful and unique “hidden gardens” and showcases a variety of garden types, plants, and settings. Sit a spell and enjoy the view from select period porches and see how they help define the character of our community. Porches and gardens can be visited in any order at any time during the event window, allowing guests to go at their own pace.
Additional features include a furnished replica Camp Meeting Tent and the Richardson History House, a camp meeting cottage museum. A quilt show will be displayed in the historic Tabernacle. Stop by the gift shop, which is stocked with Mount Tabor souvenirs and vintage items. Box lunches are available for pre-order only. Printed tour booklets with the self-guided map can be picked up, or purchased day-of, at the check-in table located at the Old Firehouse on Simpson Avenue.
Advance Tickets are $25 per person, or $35 with a box lunch, via online order or mailed check. Tickets also can be purchased for $30 on the day of the Tour. For advance tickets, information about the community, photos, and directions, visit http://mounttabornj.org or call 973-975-0001.
This event is the largest fundraiser for the Mount Tabor Historical Society. The non-profit organization puts all event proceeds back into the community through beautification, educational, and preservation projects, including the restoration of the Richardson History House.
Parking will be provided at the Mount Tabor School, located on Park Road, Morris Plains, off Route 53 (GPS: use 864 Park Rd. Morris Plains) where a shuttle bus will be available for transport into the heart of Mount Tabor. Mount Tabor is located in Morris County along Route 53 between Denville and Morris Plains. Visitors who prefer mass transit can take the NJ Transit Morris & Essex line to the Mount Tabor stop.

Visit Howell Farm on Saturday to learn canning: the ins, outs, and vacuum seals in between your summer produce and a delicious winter stew. Kim Daly, keeper of Howell Farm’s historic kitchen, will teach you how to “put up” your food – with tomato, bean, and okra canning demonstrations outside the farmhouse throughout the day. The site is open from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm.
Please note that all 2021 programs will be modified to encourage social distancing and reflect current State guidelines for public events. Visitors are required to carry masks at all times, and wear them when social distancing isn't possible.

On Saturday at 2:00 pm, Carla Messinger of Native American Heritage Programs will present Lenape Lifeways at the Museum of Early Trades and Crafts, exploring the culture of these peaceful, progressive people and contrasting their social customs, history, religion, family life, agriculture, hunting, healing practices, arts and crafts, past and present contributions with those of the Europeans and Colonial Americans of the time. This program is kid friendly and family-oriented with hands-on, interactive exhibits, and is free with regular admission. Pre-registration is recommended.
This program is included with the cost of admission to the Museum. Admission fees can be paid at the Museum or in the Education Annex at 23 Main Street. Admission fees are $5/Adult, $3/Student/Senior/Children 6 and over. Children under 6 are free and a maximum family rate is $15.

Mansions by the Sea Trolley Tour
You’ll hear how the rich lived in the early 1900s in the most elegant part of town on this trolley tour that includes the eastern beachfront. Annual Old Time Barnegat Bay Decoy & Gunning Show
The 39th Annual Old Time Barnegat Bay Decoy & Gunning Show will be held on Saturday and Sunday. This annual event is hosted at Tip Seaman Park and the Tuckerton Seaport. Admission is free and tickets are not required.
What does the Seaport have planned?
Tuckerton Seaport will be hosting a Heritage Tent at the park to showcase traditions of the Barnegat Bay and Pinelands. Stop by to watch demonstrations with Basket Maker Mary May, the Seaport Stitchers Quilt Guild, and the Tuckerton Seaport Youth Carving Club. Jim Allen from Decoy Heritage will be offering free decoy appraisals on Saturday at table #111 at the park.

The Seaport will also have complimentary admission for on-land touring as well as complimentary on-water boat tours of the Tuckerton Creek. Creek Tours will depart at 10:00 am, 11:00 am, 1:00 pm, 2:00 pm, and 3:00 pm from the Seaport’s Lighthouse Dock. Each 50 minute tour is fully narrated by a Seaport captain and tour guide who look forward to sharing coastal culture and heritage with you. Tickets can be reserved in-person on the day of the event at our Lighthouse welcome desk. The Seaport’s pop-up Gift Shop at the Lighthouse will be open both days from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm. Stop by the Hunting Shanty to view the Seaport’s interactive video series created to introduce the next generation to the traditions of the Barnegat Bay and Pinelands or the new Jersey Shore Folklife Center building for make-and-take crafts for kids. There will be a free shuttle bus service operating on a loop throughout the day from Tuckerton Seaport to Tip Seaman County Park, and Freedom Fields Parking.
