Saturday, November 28 - Hopewell Township, Mercer County Thanksgiving Corn Picking Party! Children Friendly Event This Saturday, visitors are invited to help Howell Living History Farm with its last harvest of the year – field corn that will be processed into cornmeal and donated to local food banks and pantries. About 30,000 ears have yet to be picked, according to the farmers who planted the crop back in May. The ears will be dried, shelled, and milled into cornmeal before being given to programs that distribute food to local families. So far, nearly 15 tons of grain products, fresh produce and eggs have been donated to food banks and pantries this year through the farm’s “Share the Harvest” program. Harvesting will take place in the field from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm and include “Corn Picking 101” lessons from the farmers who use work horses, circ

Saturday, November 21 - Hopewell Township, Mercer County Logging & Firewood Cutting Children Friendly Event While farmers use horses to skid saw logs out of the woods and haul firewood to the sap house in preparation for maple sugaring season, visitors can cut and chop firewood, split locust logs into fence rails, and make real barn pegs for use in barn frames around the farm! At the sawmill, farmers will be cutting boards for horse stalls, fences, and a new hog shed. This event runs from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm. **Please note that fall 2020 Saturday programs will be modified to encourage social distancing and reflect current State guidelines for public events. 244th Anniversary of the Retreat to Victory at Historic New Bridge Landing Join the Bergen County Historical Society as they celebrate the 244th Anniversary of the Retreat to Victory at Historic New Bridge Landing on Sunday, November 22 from 1:00 - 4:00 pm. Historic New Bridge Landing is located at 1201 Main Street, River Edge, NJ. In the Steuben House, Marta Black will be giving three 20-minute talks on political cartoons of the 18th century. Reservations for the talk will be required. Space is limited and there is no additional charge. Times will be announced on the society’s website.   Also, on display for viewing in the Steuben House will be Revolutionary War artifacts from the society’s collection.

Lady of History, Alisa Dupuy, as her 19th-century character Eliza Blackwell Dupree, will explain this and other Victorian Christmas traditions such as holiday ornaments, Christmas cards, candy canes, and poinsettias.
