Cape May Lighthouse Celebrates National Lighthouse Day Tuesday, August 7, 2018 Celebrate the majestic beacons that are America's maritime treasures - lighthouses - during National Lighthouse Day on Tuesday, August 7 and enjoy special family friendly activities at the Cape May Lighthouse from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. An aid to navigation since 1859 and one of the oldest continually operating lighthouses in the United States, the historic Cape May Lighthouse is hosting a day of family activities at the base of the lighthouse, sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts & Humanities (MAC). Climb the 199 steps to the top of this majestic beacon and experience the beautiful view. Learn about the role of the lighthouse keeper and the history of this historic 1859 beacon, still in operation today, fully restored by MAC. Members of the Coast Guard Auxiliary will be in attendance telling about their role in the history and operation of the lighthouse. See critters from the Ca

Friday - Saturday, July 20 - 21 - Paterson, Passaic County Shakespeare at Lambert Castle Visitors to Lambert Castle on Friday and Saturday may find themselves transported to Elizabethan times. The Passaic County Historical Society will host ATC Studios’ Summer Shakespeare Conservatory for two performances at Lambert Castle on Friday at 7:00 pm in the Gallery and Saturday at 3:00 and 5:00 pm on the Castle lawn. The production is the culmination of a 4 week program at Clifton’s ATC. The performance, which will last less than an hour and a half, is definitely user-friendly: a great way to introduce someone to the Bard, and a wonderful treat for those who know the works well.  For the Gallery performance on Friday, tickets are $10, general admission. Q&A with Steven Ujifusa: Author of Barons of the Sea 1. Your book starts in 1837, with a young Warren Delano at the center. What was the state of American clipper ships and trade with the Chinese at that point, before ‘the race to build the world’s fastest clipper ship’ began? Saturday, July 14  - Tabernacle, Burlington County 90th Annual Captain Emilio Carranza Memorial Service The 90th Annual Captain Emilio Carranza Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, beginning at 1:00 pm. Captain Emilio Carranza has been called "Mexico's Lindbergh." In 1928, while flying a goodwill mission from New York City to Mexico City, his plane crashed near Tabernacle, New Jersey during a thunderstorm. Since his death, members of American Legion Post 11 in Mount Holly have continued to promote his goodwill mission by honoring the pioneer aviator Captain Emilio Carranza.
