Guided tours of the Integrated Fire Control (IFC) site will allow you to see the inner workings of the facility where supersonic nuclear armed Nike Hercules missiles were controlled and guided using Cold War era computers and radars. You will have the opportunity to meet and talk with some of the veterans who actually worked on the Nike Air Defense System. Free tours from 12:00 noon - 4:00 pm. Celebrate National Public Lands Day with special family activities at Glenmont, the home and estate of Thomas and Mina Edison in Llewellyn Park between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm on Saturday. Visitors wanting to visit Glenmont, should pick up a car pass from the Laboratory Visitor Center. Activities include tours of the 29-room Victorian Mansion and tours of the poured concrete garage which houses a circa 1900 Locomobile, 1911 and 1914 Detriot Electrics, 1922 Model T and the 1936 Brewster belonging to Charles Edison.
Enjoy water color painting and obstacle course races on the lawn, Victorian board games, Junior Ranger activities, sand art and a paper airplane building contest and much more. Explore the 15 acre estate, garage, greenhouse, and the gravesite of Thomas and Mina Edison.
Before going to Glenmont, you must first pick up a car pass and directions at the Laboratory Complex visitor center at 211 Main Street, West Orange, NJ. You will not be able to get to Glenmont without the special car pass. Admission to Thomas Edison National Historical Park is waived on Saturday in honor of National Public Lands Day. Join us for a birthday celebration of Major General Baron von Steuben's birthday at his Jersey Estate. The Zabriskie-Steuben House is the only extant building in the US that Steuben owned. Come and enjoy a picket fence beer garden, delicious food, relax to music by the Long Hill String Band, tour three 18th century sandstone houses, and stroll the grounds of Historic New Bridge Landing in River Edge, Washington's headquarters in 1780, later home of Major General Baron von Steuben.
Mott's Artillery will be in the field with cannon. Reenactors from the 3rd NJ will be at New Bridge to answer questions about military life in the 18th century. Activities for children including large interactive canvas map showing obstacles for Washington & Cornwallis.
Help raise funds for a Hall of History Museum celebrating Bergen County's storied past. Baronfest will be held from 1:00 - 5:00 pm at Historic New Bridge Landing, 1201 Main Street, River Edge, NJ. Admission: $15 per adult and $10 for students (12 - 20 years old). BCHS members $10. Credit cards accepted and exact cash line will move faster. Have photo ID out for review. On Saturday between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm, visitors are invited to join farmers in the fields and on the threshing floor at Howell Living Farm as they plant and process wheat - work rewarded in the farmhouse kitchen with tastes of whole wheat bread and a take-home bag of freshly ground flour, complete with recipes.
Special maps with corresponding field markers are used to guide visitors to areas where they can watch or help with planting operations, thresh wheat for animal feed and bedding, and grind wheat for baking. Visitors who have their maps stamped at each of “Help-the-Farmer” stations will take home their share of the harvest – a bag of freshly milled whole wheat flour produced with their help.

Mount Tabor's 24th Annual Victorian House Tour
The Mount Tabor Historical Society's annual House Tour will take place on Saturday. The self-guided tour will be held rain or shine 11:00 am - 4:00 pm. The Annual House Tour of the Mount Tabor Historic District allows visitors to get an inside look at the unique charm of this historic community, with more than 15 private houses and historic buildings open to the public. Special features include a furnished replica Camp Meeting Tent and the Richardson History House, a camp meeting cottage museum. Stop by the gift shop, which is stocked with Mount Tabor souvenirs and vintage items. There will also be lunches and beverages for sale.
Step inside the replica Camp Meeting Tent and sample traditional tent life for yourself. You may find it just as charming today as when it was described in the Tabor Record August 1881: "Many delight in the freedom, the light and the air, that a canvas house affords, and hold that half the attraction of the place is in the wholesome outdoor life they lead, sleeping with but a film of cotton between them and the dews of heaven".
This event is the largest fundraiser for the Mount Tabor Historical Society. The nonprofit organization puts all event proceeds back into the community through beautification, educational, and restoration projects, including the restoration of the Richardson History House.
Founded in 1869, the Mount Tabor Historic District embodies the distinctive characteristics of a permanent Methodist Camp Meeting Ground that evolved into a summer residential community. Particularly notable is the architecture of the early camp meeting Stick-Style and Gothic Revival-influenced cottages with their prominent steep gables, open porches and elaborate gingerbread embellishments.
Parking will be provided at the Mount Tabor School, located on Park Road, Morris Plains, off Route 53 (GPS: use 864 Park Road, Morris Plains, NJ) where a shuttle bus will be available for transport into the heart of Mount Tabor. Mount Tabor is located in Morris County along Route 53 between Denville and Morris Plains. Visitors who prefer mass transit can take the NJ Transit Morris & Essex line to the Mount Tabor stop.

They usually fall near the Harvest Moon, the closest full moon to the autumnal equinox. It is a time of merriment, eating, music, contests of strength, games, and romance. Please join us in celebrating the harvest, bring your sweetheart and try your hand at cider pressing, games, dancing, and much more!
Admission: $5 adults, $3 children 5-12 years. Horse and wagon rides additional $7.00 per adult, $5.00 for children 12 and under.

Playing the hammered and mountain dulcimers, penny whistle and guitar, Linda sings and plays ballads, love songs, dance tunes, and working songs written in early America and brought over from the Old World.
Linda Russell is a balladeer who brings America’s past to life through song. She has served for many years as musical historian for the National Park Service at Federal Hall National Memorial and has performed at historic sites throughout New York and New Jersey.

Savvy shoppers can get a head-start on their holiday gift-buying while shopping locally on Sunday at Morris County Historical Society's Made in NJ Vendor Fair. Proprietors and their NJ-based businesses will display and sell their products on the idyllic setting of the manicured lawn and gardens at Acorn Hall, MCHS headquarters, 68 Morris Ave., Morristown, from 1-4 p.m.
The cottage industries will be food-related, crafts, jewelry, works of arts, personal care items, candles and other products - all Made in New Jersey.
Vendors will have candles, food products, mugs, body lotions, and tons of other crafts and wares for visitors to peruse and purchase. October is a great time to start shopping for the holidays, and our Vendor Fair is a fantastic way to support local small businesses. Products include artisanal soaps, hand-crafted chocolates, made-to-order coffee mugs, and oil and vinegar mixes. There's definitely something here for parents, friends, children, and coworkers-you may even find the perfect gift for yourself!

Proprietors and their NJ-based businesses will display and sell their products on the idyllic setting of the manicured lawn and gardens at Acorn Hall, MCHS headquarters, 68 Morris Ave., Morristown, from 1-4 p.m.
The cottage industries will be food-related, crafts, jewelry, works of arts, personal care items, candles and other products - all Made in New Jersey.
Vendors will have candles, food products, mugs, body lotions, and tons of other crafts and wares for visitors to peruse and purchase. October is a great time to start shopping for the holidays, and our Vendor Fair is a fantastic way to support local small businesses. Products include artisanal soaps, hand-crafted chocolates, made-to-order coffee mugs, and oil and vinegar mixes. There's definitely something here for parents, friends, children, and coworkers-you may even find the perfect gift for yourself!
