Lyndhurst Historical Society to Hold Appraisal Fair
May 2, 2015

Area residents are encouraged to look through their garages, search the boxes in their basements, and check out those dusty trunks in their attics. The treasures they find can now be appraised when the Lyndhurst Historical Society hosts its Antiques Roadshow-Style Appraisal Fair on Saturday, May 2, 2015 from 12:00 noon - 5:00 pm at the Lyndhurst Senior Center, located at 250 Cleveland Avenue in Lyndhurst.


Jon Felz, senior vice president, RZM Fine Arts & Antiques, Inc., will be on-hand to provide an informal appraisal of the many items that are expected to appear. Felz, who has more than 15 years of experience as an appraiser, is a certified appraiser and member of the New England Appraisers Association and is a member of the Daguerreian Society. Felz is an auctioneer who conducts monthly auctions around New Jersey and is also a retired New York City police officer, formerly assigned to the Antiques and Art Fraud Squad.

“We’re excited to hold this event. It benefits the Lyndhurst Historical Society, which preserves the Little Red Schoolhouse Museum,” said Joan Waltman, vice president, Lyndhurst Historical Society. “Plus, it’s always interesting to find out a little more about something you've had around the house for a while.”

Advance registration is required by April 22. A reservation is $15 and includes the appraisal of two items only. Light refreshments will be served. The Industrial Remains of Long Pond Ironworks Written by NJ Historian The Highlands Region of New Jersey was once home to many industrious ironworks and forges. The forges at Long Pond, Ringwood, Midvale, Pompton, Bloomingdale, and Charlottenburg produced iron products for the young and quickly growing U.S. economy and even provided materials for troops during the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, and the Civil War. All of these forges, with the exception of Long Pond, are no longer standing.
