The Batsto Citizens Committee, Inc’s. (BCCI) annual holiday celebration; “Winter at Batsto Village,” will take place on Sunday December 7, 2014 at the historic site.

The Hammonton High School Select Choir; under the direction of Marrissa Carrafiello, will present a musical celebration of the season “Winter In The Pines” in the Wharton State Forest Visitors Center beginning at 1:00 pm. Admission is $5 per person and seating begins at 12:30 pm with the performance beginning promptly at 1:00 pm. For additional information, please call 609-561-0024 or e-mail: info@batstovillage.org.


Adding to the festive atmosphere of the day, carolers from the Aurora Choir of St. Nick’s Church (Egg Harbor City) will stroll the Village from 1:45 - 4:00 pm.

The stately Batsto mansion; dressed in the splendor of the winter season, will be available to tour for $3.00 and tickets are available on site at the Visitor Center.

Visitors can bring their holiday cards; already stamped and addressed, and have them hand cancelled by a volunteer postmaster at the Batsto Post Office. Members of the Merchantville Stamp Club will be on hand to assist with this effort.  Due to its age and historical significance, the Batsto Post Office (1852), a zip code is not required to be part of the hand postmark cancellation. 

Blacksmith Toby Kroll will demonstrate some of the techniques and tools of the trade in the Batsto blacksmith shop.

Light refreshments will be served in the Exhibit Room that adjoins the Batsto Post Office. Several displays for both adults and children are available for viewing.

The Industrial Remains of Long Pond Ironworks Written by NJ Historian The Highlands Region of New Jersey was once home to many industrious ironworks and forges. The forges at Long Pond, Ringwood, Midvale, Pompton, Bloomingdale, and Charlottenburg produced iron products for the young and quickly growing U.S. economy and even provided materials for troops during the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, and the Civil War. All of these forges, with the exception of Long Pond, are no longer standing.
