It’s Lake Hopatcong on the Big Screen!

On Saturday evening, November 8th, see Lake Hopatcong come alive on the big screen!

During its heyday as a major northeast resort, many newsreel crews visited Lake Hopatcong, capturing events from those years on film. Retrieved by the Lake Hopatcong Historical Museum from film vaults around the globe, this newsreel footage of Lake Hopatcong will be shown as it originally appeared at movie theatres from the 1910s to the 1940s. See celebrities, beauty pageants, winter carnivals, boat races, and more filmed at New Jersey’s largest lake.


Netcong’s historic Palace Theatre provides a perfect venue to view these fascinating newsreels of Lake Hopatcong, many of which were probably originally seen at this very venue.

The doors will open at 7:00 pm for a dessert table featuring the finest in Italian pastries from Veniero’s of Manhattan. The program will commence at 8:00 pm. The cost of the evening is $20.00 per person and reservations are required. The Industrial Remains of Long Pond Ironworks Written by NJ Historian The Highlands Region of New Jersey was once home to many industrious ironworks and forges. The forges at Long Pond, Ringwood, Midvale, Pompton, Bloomingdale, and Charlottenburg produced iron products for the young and quickly growing U.S. economy and even provided materials for troops during the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, and the Civil War. All of these forges, with the exception of Long Pond, are no longer standing. Today, nestled within Long Pond Ironworks State Park, the remains of a colonial furnace and two Civil War era furnaces remind hikers, naturalists, and visitors of the rich ores once mined and smelted in this region of northern New Jersey, not far from the New York border.
