Organization of the Week: Friends of Princeton Nursery Lands

Every Monday, I highlight a non-profit related to history or the arts, a historical society, preservation group or friends group whose main objective is to promote the historical and artistic history of New Jersey.

This week, I am featuring the Friends of Princeton Nursery Lands. Founded in 2000, the mission of the Friends of Princeton Nursery Lands is the preservation, protection, development, and interpretation of the historical, horticultural, and natural resources of the former Princeton Nurseries Kingston Site, for the enjoyment of present and future generations.

The Friends work in conjunction with the Mapleton Preserve Commission, South Brunswick Township, the Delaware & Raritan Canal State Park, the State of New Jersey, and other local and regional organizations, to assure the preservation, restoration, and interpretation of the land and buildings once owned by Princeton Nurseries for the benefit of the public. The group sponsors lectures on the historical and horticultural aspects of the nursery, nature walks, clean-ups throughout the year, and events for Arbor Day and National Public Lands Day.

The Friends Of Princeton Nursery Lands relies on memberships, fundraising, and countless volunteers to continue its mission. For more information on programs, special events, and exhibits hosted by the Friends Of Princeton Nursery Lands or to become a member or volunteer, please call 609-683-0483 or visit www.fpnl.org.

If you are a member of a non-profit organization or know of one that you would like to see featured on this site, please let us know in the comments or send an e-mail to kelly@thehistorygirl.com.
