S aturday ,  February 26  - Holmdel, Monmouth County Cutting, Splitting, and Hewing Wood heated the farmer three times: once when they gathered the wood, once when the split the wood, and a final time when they burned the wood.  O n Saturday,  visit Historic Longstreet Farm in Holmdel  and get warmed up using a two-man saw and splitting wedge and learn how farmers used a froe to rive shingles or a broad ax to hew beams.  This free events run from 12:00 noon - 2:30 pm. Saturday ,  February 19  - Hopewell Township, Mercer County Maple Sugaring Children Friendly The time of freezing nights and thawing days has come...and the smell of maple syrup is in the air! Help farmers collect sap in the woods, make syrup in the sap house, and taste whole wheat pancakes after a quick visit to the farmhouse kitchen. Lunch will also be available for purchase. Visitors can also learn how to bring the operation into their own backyards, with tree tapping demonstrations at 10:30, 11:00, 11:30, 12:00, 12:30, 1:00, 1:30, 2:00, 2:30, and 3:00. Dress for the job: the work has sweet rewards, but it can be muddy, icy, and windy in the sugar bush. Saturday ,  February 12  - Holmdel, Monmouth County Yarn Bee Ages 10+ Whether starting a new hobby or working on an old project, all are welcome to this gathering o n Saturday at Historic Longstreet Farm in Holmdel ! The relaxed atmosphere means no pressure - you can knit or crochet at your own pace, and farm staff will be on hand to assist those wanting to learn a new skill. Bring your own supplies or borrow ours for the session. Open to ages 10 and up; under 18 with adult. The cost is $5 per person; cash or check only.  This event run from 12:00 noon - 2:30 pm.  Please note that participants are required to mask while in common areas inside buildings and when social distancing cannot be maintained during the program.
