Saturday, August 28   - Princeton, Mercer County Stony Brook Walking Tour Before there was a "Princeton," six Quaker families established a community on the fertile ground along Stony Brook. This two-hour hike explores the lives of the early settlers and the community they established, while following a portion of the trail George Washington took from Trenton to the Princeton Battlefield. Stops include the Stony Brook Meeting House and Burial Ground, walking a portion of the "hidden" back road into Princeton, and a view of the Battlefield. Admission: $10 per person. Tours begin  at the Updike Farmstead farmhouse, 354 Quaker Road, Princeton, NJ at 11:00 am. Space is limited. Saturday,  August 14 Women's Suffrage in Black and White Virtual Program Alice Paul famously said that to her, “there is nothing complicated about ordinary equality.” However, the history of the woman suffrage movement shows that time and again issues such as race did complicate efforts to win women the vote. From the Seneca Falls Convention of 1848 to the streets of Washington D.C. in 1913 to Southern statehouses in 1920, many women of color found themselves excluded from the front lines of the movement and pushed to the background, sometimes quite literally. The relaxed atmosphere means no pressure - you can knit or crochet at your own pace, and farm staff will be on hand to assist those wanting to learn a new skill.
