They were filled with plants that provided food for the household (peas and carrots, anyone?). But they also provided ingredients for household and personal use, such as for keeping fleas from your bed or cleaning your skin, as well as for medicinal use for ailments and injuries. Join us to learn more about kitchen gardens in colonial times and to explore the Rockingham kitchen garden to see what is growing as well as the uses of various plants. Saturday, August 15  - Somers Point, Atlantic County Somers Point Historical Society Open House Family Friendly The Somers Point Historical Society is sponsoring an Open House on Saturday (raindate Saturday, August 22) at our museum. Over the winter and spring months the museum has been totally renovated. In addition to highlighting local Somers Point history, we have assimilated the recent acquisition of the Linwood Maritime Museum into our collection. The expansion of artifacts includes a diorama of a late 1800s shipbuilding workshop complete with vintage tools. Seven large scale ship models of various types of ships that measure from 36 to 60 inches in width each in their own case. Smaller ship models are also on display. Saturday, August 8  - Westfield, Union County Westfield Historical Society Walking Tour: Westfield’s Historic Churches On Saturday from 9:00 - 11:00 am, the eighth in a very popular series of architectural walking tours will take place around the downtown area churches of Westfield. The intent of this tour is to look at the diverse architectural styles of five of the many churches - some having great historic significance near downtown Westfield. Gregory Blasi, R.A. local architect and principal of Vincentsen & Blasi Architects and Westfield Historical Society President, will lead the tour and answer questions. Mr. Blasi will discuss how the architecture of these churches differs depending on the time they were built. Pending approvals from the churches, some may take place inside the church. The

Paterson Museum Unveils Virtual Exhibition Seeking Refuge: Images of those Displaced by War, Poverty and Persecution The Paterson Museum is happy to announce the opening of a virtual exhibition experience, Seeking Refuge: Images of those Displaced by War, Poverty and Persecution . The situation of refugees has been a much debated topic in recent years, both within the United States and internationally. As a city with a strong history of diversity among its inhabitants, Paterson and its citizens have an opportunity to partake in the discussion.
