Saturday,  June 2   - Princeton, Mercer County Stony Brook Walking Tour Before there was a "Princeton," six Quaker families established a community on the fertile ground along Stony Brook. This two-hour hike explores the lives of the early settlers and the community they established, while following a portion of the trail George Washington took from Trenton to the Princeton Battlefield. Stops include the Stony Brook Meeting House and Burial Ground, walking a portion of the "hidden" back road into Princeton, and a view of the Battlefield. Friday - Saturday, May 25 - 26 - Hopewell, Mercer County Memorial Day Weekend Events On Memorial Day Weekend, multiple organizations across Hopewell Valley will present programs and events that celebrate its rich heritage.     On Friday will be the opening reception for Hopewell Valley Heritage Weekend. This kick-off event will be held at 6:00 pm at the historic Hopewell Train Station located at 2 Railroad Place, Hopewell, NJ. It will provide an excellent opportunity to get an overview of the weekend events. This event is sponsored by the Hopewell Valley Historical Society and the Hopewell Public Library. Saturday, May 19  - Whippany, Morris County Armed Forces Day at the Whippany Railway Museum Children Friendly Event & Site Visit the Whippany Railway Museum on Saturday for Armed Forces Day from 12:00 noon - 5:00 pm. The Military Transport Association of North Jersey will display a wide variety of classic, restored U.S. Military vehicles and more at the Museum site. A unique part of this event will feature two railroad flatcars carrying military "cargo" that will be part of the consist of each train operating throughout the day. The 10-mile, 45-minute round trip excursion from Whippany and return is a thrill for the children as they enjoy what for many will be their very first train ride...and they can also learn about and experience the history of New Jersey's rich railroad and transportation heritage. New Jersey National Park Invites Public to Free Reception and Illustrated Talk  for Photography Exhibition on George Washington’s Headquarters May 19, 2018 The museum at New Jersey’s Morristown National Historical Park invites the public to a free reception with refreshments and an illustrated artist talk on Saturday, May 19, 2018 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The event celebrates the debut solo exhibition George Washington’s Headquarters: Photographs by Xiomáro. The 22 large images of the Ford Mansion – Washington’s Revolutionary War base of operations during the winter of 1779-1780 – will be on view until December 28, 2018. Xiomáro will present a slideshow retrospective of his various collections commissioned by the National Park Service. To advance public interest in American history, he will also be giving away a book about the mansion and a photographic print. Blairstown Historic Preservation Committee invites the public to attend History Month May 2018 The volunteers of the Blairstown Historic Preservation Committee (BHPC) will be hosting three events during the month of May 2018. All events are FREE and open to the public. Each event is a has a special focus and is important in conveying historic information on different topics. A highlight will be the May 12th walking tour at Footbridge Park. We are so excited to celebrate the 125th Anniversary of our landmark Footbridge. It was installed in 1893 by railroad baron and namesake of Blairstown, John I. Blair. Saturday, May 12  - Chester, Morris County Born to be Shorn Children Friendly Event and Site On Saturday from 11:00 am - 4:00 pm at the Cooper Grist Mill in Chester, visit the lambs and watch hand-shearing of the sheep. See how fleece is processed and made into garments. Hands-on activities include weaving, spinning, and making crafts. Take a guided tour of the 1826 water-powered Cooper Gristmill to complete the day. Cost: $3 per adult, $2 per senior (65+), and $1 per child age 4 - 16.  FREE for children under age 4, and Friends of Fosterfields and Cooper Mill members with a current membership card.  The Cooper Gristmill is located at 66 Route 513, Chester, NJ.
