Glenmont will be decorated much as it was while the Edison family lived there. Greenery and red poinsettias will deck the mantles above the fireplaces. Staircases will be ringed with boughs and red ribbon bows and wreaths will hang in every window. Celebrate the Holiday Season at Durand-Hedden Victorian Santa visit and Gingerbread House contest 12/10/17; entries due 12/9/17 Celebrate the season at the Durand-Hedden House & Garden on December 10, 2017 from 1:00 - 4:00 pm with gingerbread houses, a paper ornament activity, treats and shopping. All Aboard…Trains!  Exhibit at the Gloucester County Historical Society Museum Now Through March 30, 2018 All Aboard…Trains! , our new exhibit at the Gloucester County Historical Society Museum, will be a hit for the whole family! The main attraction will be the running train displays throughout the museum. Also featured will be the extensive Tyco Train collection which was once the private collection of the Tyler family, founder of Tyco. Railroad memorabilia from throughout the years will also be on display, in addition to vignettes from Victorian times to the 1950’s. The museum will be decked out for the holiday season as well.

Two Chances to Watch George Washington’s Annual Delaware River Crossing December 10 and 25, 2017 Each December, thousands gather on the banks of the Delaware River to watch the reenactment of George Washington’s daring Christmas Day 1776 river crossing. During the event, several hundred reenactors in Continental military dress listen to an inspiring speech by Washington and then row across the river in replica Durham boats.

Friday,  November 24   - Bedminster, Somerset County Liberty Tree Lighting Children Friendly Event The Friends of the Jacobus Vanderveer House are hosting a Liberty Tree lighting on Friday at 7:00 pm to kick off the 15th Annual Colonial Christmas celebration, which begins Saturday, November 25 and continues Sunday, November 26 and Saturday and Sunday, December 2 - 3. The Liberty Tree lighting, sponsored by Investor’s Bank, is free to the community and features caroling with the Harmonium Choral Society, hot chocolate and hot pretzels, and a visit from Santa. The tree, decorated in patriotic red, white, and blue lights, commemorates the Jacobus Vanderveer House's (and the community's) Revolutionary War heritage during the holiday season. Saturday, November 18   - Princeton, Mercer County Stony Brook Walking Tour - CANCELLED Before there was a "Princeton," six Quaker families established a community on the fertile ground along Stony Brook. This two-hour hike explores the lives of the early settlers and the community they established, while following a portion of the trail George Washington took from Trenton to the Princeton Battlefield. Stops include the Stony Brook Meeting House and Burial Ground, walking a portion of the "hidden" back road into Princeton, and a view of the Battlefield.
