Community Picnic & Field of Honor® in Bedminster's River Road Park Sunday, July 2, 2017 On Sunday, July 2, the Friends of the Jacobus Vanderveer House & Museum will welcome Congressman Leonard Lance, local officials, veterans, West Point alumni, and the public to a community picnic, featuring a Field of Honor® display of 200 3’ x 5’ American flags, at River Road Park from 1:00 - 4:00 pm. Live musical entertainment will be provided by the popular New Jersey band Hoi Polloi.  Admission is free, and food and beverages will be available for purchase. The staff at Ringwood Manor is thrilled to once again announce the details for the annual Declaration of Independence celebration! Tuesday, July 4, 2017 marks the event's 18th year, having become an exciting and educational tradition for many families in the northern New Jersey area. The highlight of the event is a dramatic delivery and reading of the Declaration of Independence on the steps of the Manor's porch along with colonial crafters, activities, and demonstrations. The front lawn of the Manor is transformed into a colonial town square with Revolutionary War reenactors from New Jersey Militia- Heard's Brigade, the 35th Royal Sussex Regiment, Outwater's Militia, the Friends of Long Pond Ironworks, and individual volunteers. “Land, Faith and Slaves: The shared heritage of the Hardenbergh family, Rutgers University, and the Dutch Reformed Church”  Saturday, June 17, 2017 On Saturday, June 17, at 2:30 pm at the Old Dutch Parsonage, speakers from Rutgers University and Rutgers Theological Seminary will explore the slave-holding history of Rutgers’ founders. The Rev. Jacob Hardenbergh, principal founder of Rutgers University, was an outspoken proponent of American freedom. Yet he was also a slave owner, for slavery pervaded the social and religious world in which he lived. Join archivists and faculty from the New Brunswick Theological Seminary and Rutgers University as they explore the connections between the Hardenbergh family of New York and New Jersey and the great African American abolitionist leader Sojourner Truth, at one time their slave; the stories of other early slave-holding leaders of Rutgers College, and the history of Rutgers and Dutch Reformed circles during the Revolutionary War and ...

Paulsdale is the birthplace of Quaker suffragist Alice Paul. Tours include a 15-minute presentation about Alice Paul's life and work and a guided tour of the first floor of the property where visitors learn about the Paul family's daily life in the house and its present day use as a girl's leadership center. Tours are $5.00 per person. Paulsdale is located at 128 Hooton Road, Mount Laurel, NJ. Saturday, June 3 - Haddonfield, Camden County Revolutionary War Skirmish in Haddonfield Children Friendly Event Red Coats and rebels will face off once again when the American Revolution returns to South Jersey for the fourth annual "Skirmish on Kings Highway" on Saturday from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm. The event will mark the 239th anniversary of the British encampment in Haddonfield. Revolutionary reenactors - the Second Pennsylvania Regiment - will gather at the Indian King Tavern Museum beginning at 10:00 am. Around 1:00 pm, the Red Coats from the First Battalion of New Jersey Volunteers will march down Kings Highway.
