Every Friday - Sunday through January 10, 2016 - West Orange, Essex County Holidays at Glenmont Children Friendly The sights and sounds of the season will greet visitors when they come to Thomas Edison's home in Llewellyn Park during "Holidays at Glenmont." Glenmont will be decorated much as it was while the Edison family lived there. Greenery and red poinsettias will deck the mantles above the fireplaces. Staircases will be ringed with boughs and red ribbon bows and wreaths will hang in every window. In the den, the majestic ten foot tree will be set and the presents underneath will be waiting as if the Edison children Madeleine, Theodore, and Charles, will soon come running down the stairs from their rooms - after they've checked their stockings in the upstairs living room! Scott Berg will kick off Morven Museum & Garden's year-long exhibition, Charles and Anne Morrow Lindbergh: Couple of an Age . The acclaimed author will deliver a lecture at the McCarter Theatre Center on his Pulitzer Prize-winning biography, Lindbergh . Berg, a 1971 graduate of Princeton University, is the author of five best-selling books, including Max Perkins: Editor of   Genius , Goldwyn: A Biography , and Wilson . South River through the eyes of R. Van Dyke Reid Written by Stephanie Bartz If you're familiar with South River, you probably know that it occupies less than three square miles nestled between the more sprawling expanses of Sayreville and East Brunswick. What you might not know is that until 1898, when it incorporated as a separate borough, South River was part of East Brunswick. The significance of that fact in relation to the South River – Images of America book will become apparent once you learn a little bit more about what's in the book. Long before there was a South River Historical & Preservation Society, Richard Van Dyke Reid made himself the unofficial historian of South River. From an early age, he created scrapbooks of newspaper clippings, death notices, marriage announcements, and election data. Born in September 1833, his earliest scrapbook entry dates to July 1844. Monmouth County Historical Association's Newest Exhibition Expanded for the Second Time The Beautiful Childhood Portraits from the Permanent Collection exhibition, has been expanded for the second time since it first opened at the Monmouth County Historical Association Museum, Curator Joseph Hammond announced this week. The exhibition features not only portraits of the children of local families from the 19th century but also several selections of children’s furniture, also from the Museum collection, including high chairs, sleighs, and rocking chairs designed specifically for children.
