Organization of the Week: Friends of Fishkill Supply Depot
Every Monday, I highlight a non-profit related to history or the arts, a historical society, preservation group or friends group whose main objective is to promote the historical and artistic history of New Jersey and beyond. This week, I am featuring the Friends of Fishkill Supply Depot based in Fishkill, New York. The Friends were formed in 2007 after archaeologists confirmed the location of unmarked Revolutionary War graves on land that was once part of and known as the Fishkill Supply Depot. At least 300 soldiers and possibly as many as 700 to 1,000 remain unmarked in what became a forgotten wooded parcel over time. Today, the land, privately-owned and slated for commercial development, is at risk. The Friends of Fishkill Supply Depot advocate for the preservation, study, and proper interpretation of the site, which also contains archaeological remains from Supply Depot structures.
